Markel Insurance, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc., has appointed Alain Paris as Vice President, Product Line Leader – Primary Casualty, effective immediately.
In this new role, Paris will be responsible for leading the primary casualty product line across Canada, working closely with technical and field underwriting teams.
The firm notes that the role is integral to its underwriting framework, ensuring alignment between field underwriting execution and strategic product direction.
Paris’ appointment marks a significant step as Markel Canada continues to expand its capabilities and build momentum nationally.
He has over two decades of experience in casualty underwriting and strategic portfolio management, having held leadership positions at several Canadian carriers.

Most recently, he served as Assistant Vice President of Middle Market Casualty at Berkeley Canada, driving profitable growth through thoughtful strategy and focused execution.
Additionally, Paris brings deep expertise across casualty lines, with a focus on product and participant liability, and general liability, umbrella, excess, and specialty covers, such as abuse liability, where Markel is a market leader.
